Russ has written several originals that are mainstays of their set list, especially a barn-burner instrumental which they utilize regularly to kick off their performances. Jim and George have written and/or co-written sixty-five or seventy songs and are active in the Minnesota songwriting community. They have hosted a songwriting workshop at the MBOTMA Winter Bluegrass Weekend. Jim currently hosts an open stage twice per month at the River View Café in Minneapolis.
The Weasels perform an eclectic range of bluegrass and acoustic music. Russ and Ralph are steeped in swing and bebop settings and Ralph states that his bass playing constitutes the three B’s: Blues, Bebop and Bluegrass. Russ has led several groups which have played at Dulono’s and elsewhere: Studebaker Hawk, Bricktop and Half Nelson. The latter has two jazz CD’s out. Ralph is the bass player on a 2012 jazz CD release with the late Bill Hinkley. Ask about Southside of Lonesome and upcoming Weasels projects when you see them.
